The 2-song, 3/4 Death And Taxes Reunion is in the books…

Well folks, we did it.

Paul, Jeremy, John, and Sean (sitting in for Scott) performed 2 songs as part of the “3/4 Death And Taxes Reunion”: Short Attention Span, and Punt.

I’ve tossed together a YouTube channel, and as I type this I am up-loading two videos of the live performances (thanks Amy for the videos!) at the Token Lounge.

Thanks to all involved for the thrill and honor of bringing these two songs to life after 15-17 years.

Enjoy!

One-Song Reunion, moving forward….

It’s Friday evening, the 24th of June, 2013.  I (Jeremy) just returned from Paul’s house after practicing “Short Attention Span” with John, Paul, and Sean.  It’s the first time John, Paul, and I have played that song together since probably early 1996 or late ’95; some 17/18 years ago.  It was a thrill.  And Sean is doing a great job standing in for Scott!

We also kicked around some other old songs banging around our memories, but the main focus was preparation for our “One-Song, 3/4 D&T Reunion” on the 29th at the Token Lounge (as I described in this earlier post).  Now, how do we talk Scott into coming back to a song or two?

Thanks guys…

See you at the show…

A 1-Song, 3/4-band, D & T Reuinion…?

Looks like Paul, John, and I (Jeremy) will be doing what can only be described as a “partial” Death And Taxes Reunion.

As it turns out, Euphoric Haze (John and Paul’s band), Grouper Soup (Jeremy’s band) and PaperBag (also Jeremy’s band) and others will all be playing the same show, known as “Chris’ Bachelor Party” on the 29th of June. And since the 3 of us will be there, we reached out together and are going to try and do 1 Death And Taxes song during the ‘Haze’s set, likely with help from our good friend Sean (of Euphoric Haze) on Bass!

Of course, this is all an embryo of an idea, and many things aren’t fleshed out yet:

  1. We have an idea of which song it will be, but not 101% sure
  2. We haven’t even reached out to original bass-player Scott yet, to see if he could/would actually be interested
  3. We’ll have to figure out logistics of practicing it together, blowing years of dust off it
  4. I’ll have to borrow a guitar amp for the show, since I really only have bass gear anymore

…but all that is trivial and I’m pretty jazzed.  It looks like I’ll be playing in 3 bands that night, but it’ll be quite a treat all around.

June 29th at the Token Lounge…

Stay tuned…

One Song…

Well, it’s not a reunion or anything…  but my band GROUPERSOUP will be playing a Death And taxes song called “Maturity” at the benefit on June 23rd, 2012.  I hope you can join us…  Might be the closest thing to a D & T reunion you get…  Just me (Jeremy)…

UPDATE:  Well, we did it.  Here’s the YouTube thingy for it…

Coming up on 13 years?

As I type this, we’re coming up on 13 years since Death and Taxes played together.

It’s funny because back when we started (in the late ’80s), the Internet hadn’t really even been heard from. But by the time we split up in ’96, we had a website, a handful of albums (all registered with the Library of Congress) under our belt, and years of weird shows behind us…

We even had our band name protected by the office of patents and trademarks as a “Service Mark” or “SM”. Go look it up, you’ll see. It was something to the effect of “Death And Taxes; a name of a musical performance group to be used int he act of musical performances and recordings” or some such nonsense.

Every few months we’d get contacted about the name… We started getting letters at first, then later emails, from people all over the country complaining that *they* were the rightful “Death And Taxes” or “Death & Taxes” or “Death N Taxes” or whatever. Telling us to cease and desist. Whatever. Well we did, so get bent.

Now you can Google the band name, or any variant of it, and find like 50 bands with the name, all trying to make each other stop using it. All claiming they were the first. All saying they are the “original Death and/&/n Taxes”. Like they’re so clever that it had never been thought of before…

I remember when I came up with the name, sitting with Brian on his porch one hot summer evening. At the time, he said something like (and I’m paraphrasing here), “It’s kinda lame, but it will do for now…”

Trying to figure this out

Hey J,.. I finally got to this D&T site to check it out…

Pretty cool… When are you and Paulie getting together to learn the tunes. Some of those songs were complicated but cool.

That would even be sweet if you guys did it with quirky the drum machine. You are the only band that I have ever seen do that. that was pretty original back then…. Maybe you guys were too ahead of your time….

Pictures from the old days…

Want to see some old pics of us from around ’96 and previous?

Here’s a link to a listing of an assembly of images that include pics of us, cover art images, logos, and stuff I had lying around….

First steps…..

First, Paul and I (Jeremy) have to get together and practice some songs. I’ve actually been practicing some of them on my own in my spare time… jeez those songs were/are complicated…

I need a practice amp! I don’t want to carry my stack around…. Maybe I can get Paul to come over here, and we’ll jam…

Paul… I need to email Paul…
